Top Careers for Remote Work

At Ladies Work Remote, most of our content is geared toward people who already work from home because, well, those are the people who tend to read our content the most. But we’re fully aware that there’s a whole world of people who are working in an office or other on-site location, not loving it, and looking for ways to get into the WFH game.

We got you! We’ve scoured a variety of lists, criteria, and data points to find some of the careers or fields that tend to be most amenable to remote work. If you’re ready to ditch your cubicle for good, check out some of these remote jobs.

Top Jobs

Software Development

Software developers, programmers, software engineers - they can have different functions and roles but they’re all within the same realm of creating software. Whether you’re working on an app or another type of tool, software development is largely done on your laptop anyway, making it easy to do remotely.

Data Analysis

Data analysts and statisticians can pull together data for a wide variety of industries and purposes, from healthcare to business operations, and turn that data into actionable information. Love math? It’s worth looking into it!

Data Science

Data science is similar to data analysis but it usually happens at a higher level with gathering and finding a way to analyze large amounts of data.

IT

IT is a rather broad field - you could be troubleshooting your coworkers’ technical issues, designing cloud networks, safeguarding your organization’s information security, and everything in between.

Counseling and Therapy

There’s been a huge push for video calls with counselors and therapists since the pandemic started (lockdown was hard, y’all). Luckily, many people are taking better care of their mental health these days, and that’s opened the opportunity for more work in the field.

Accounting

Calling all number crunchers! Whether you’re a specialist in corporate accounting, tax accounting, bookkeeping, or a similar related specialty, chances are that you can find a work-from-home job doing what you do best.

Marketing

Who needs to be in an office to create kick-butt marketing campaigns? Just about no one, it turns out. There are remote jobs out there for nearly any player in the marketing game: strategists, social media marketers, analysts, you name it.

Graphic Design

Graphic design is another one of those gigs that has long been done on computers for the most part anyway, so going remote is an easy transition. The same is true for similar types of design like UX design and web design.

Recruiting

Also known as talent acquisition, recruitment can generally be done remotely. Sourcing candidates? Check. Conducting phone screenings? Check. Scheduling interviews with hiring managers? Check.

Virtual Assistance

The field of virtual assistance has blown up in recent years, so why not grab hold of the opportunity? A virtual assistant is basically an executive assistant or administrative assistant who is remote, so you would handle a lot of the same duties: scheduling, travel booking, email management, and so on.

For those of us in LWR who have been working remotely for years, it’s clearly a career format that we love, and we’re glad to see that so many others are finding it to be the right fit for themselves too. If you’re looking for remote opportunities, we wish you the best of luck and we hope to see you at a coworking meetup soon!
